Full-flavoured, generous and easy to reproduce recipes have won food blogger Niamh Shields a huge following as well as critical acclaim (The Times included her in its top ten food bloggers from around the world). Now for the first time her adventurous though frugal food and warm, bright writing style is collected in a book. Niamh's gastronomic curiosity has gathered together the cookery of her native Ireland, in such dishes as the Cork speciality spiced beef, exotically greedy but delicious Asian chicken skin skewers, and elegant raspberry and ricotta tarts, in dishes that embrace the passing of the seasons, the foods of the world, and both the intimate and celebratory occasions of a modern life... not forgetting what to do with leftovers. Comfort & Spice is also sprinkled with Niamh's passions, such as making your own butter and cheese (easy!), slow-cooked pork in all its forms, and the delights of edible flowers. Always keen to produce spectacular meals on a budget, Niamh reveals how to treat just six or seven jars of spices as a palette to accent each dish you cook. This is a book both to read in bed and to splatter with sauce next to the stove, whether you're a nervous novice — a group of potential cooks very close to Niamh's heart — or simply someone who wants to make their food sing.

Armani's style is elegance and sensual simplicity incarnate. Few names in fashion conjure so distinctive a look, said Vogue. For Armani, design has always been about an easy, timeless grace, not constantly changing trends; clothes meant to compliment the body, not merely cover it. With his careful removal of extraneous internal structure, emphasis on the human form and the use of soft textiles and a muted colour palette, Armani changed the face of fashion from haute couture to the high street. He revolutionised the way both men and women looked and dressed, taking away formality and fuss as surely as he ripped out linings and interlinings. It's difficult to overstate just how different the fashion landscape was before Giorgio Armani. With his principles of style, simplicity and practicality, Armani deconstructed the fashion world. From inauspicious beginnings as a department store window-dresser, he funded his first company by selling his car. 40 years on, he oversees a multi-billion dollar empire with over 250 stores in 33 countries worldwide. One of the first designers to truly utilise the appeal of Hollywood, his seminal wardrobe for Richard Gere in the 1980 film American Gigolo helped cement his as the look of the late 20th century. His frequent collaborations with luminaries such as Martin Scorsese, Leonardo Di Caprio, Cate Blanchett and Lady Gaga have all contributed to making the shy, reserved but dedicated Armani the first superstar designer of the modern age. Vogue on Giorgio Armani charts the rise of a small town boy to a fashion monolith.

Valentissimo! Viva Valentino! exclaimed Vogue, lauding the achievements of the first Italian dress designer to take on the Paris fashion world and achieve haute couture status. Drawing on Vogue's archive of imagery and text, as well as the author's exclusive interview with the designer, this book analyses Valentino's exceptional fusion of Latinate sensuality and Parisian precision. It shows how his inventive colour sense and use of opulent fabrics derived from Italian classical painting, and how his trust in and promotion of Italy's craftsmen and women is evident in his use of featherweight materials, handmade embroidery, beading and pleating. Valentino's early love of costumes worn by stars of the Italian and American film industry influenced his designs, and he attracted a superstar clientele, including Hollywood celebrities from Elizabeth Taylor to Gwyneth Paltrow, European royalty, and society figures such as Jaqueline Kennedy — who wore him in mourning, and in remarriage, at her wedding to Aristotle Onassis. Valentino is unique: the exquisite quality of his dressmaking and the femininity, glamour and allure of his seasonal collections are matchless; exceptionally in his field, he is known by his first name only; and he holds a record as the founder of a house who remained in creative control of it for 45 years.

A tortured genius and one of most influential designers of the twentieth century, Yves Saint Laurent was responsible for revolutionising the way women dressedand viewed themselves. During a wildly creative career stretching from 1958 to 2002 Saint Laurent established a reputation for accessible, flawlessly cut clothes. He became an overnight sensation in 1958, aged 21, when he showed his 'Trapeze' collection, his first for the House of Christian Dior, following the master's death. Four years later, Saint Laurent opened his own couture house and within a fewseasons was hailed by Vogue's Diana Vreeland as the pied piper of fashion. Viewed as a master colourist and admired for his choice of sultry fabrics, his great gift was creating lasting styles — described by Vogue as 'stockpiles ofessentials in times of famine' — that flattered all shapes and sizes. As well asdesigning wardrobe classics like the 'Le Smoking' tuxedo for women, the Safarijacket, the trench and the pea coat, and introducing trousers into haute couture, he also dressed international style icons such as Catherine Deneuve, MarellaAgnelli and Lauren Bacall. With his nose for the zeitgeist, Saint Laurent recognisedthe global power of street fashion and launched Rive Gauche, his ready-to-wearboutique line in 1966. Christened 'The Saint' by Vogue, every element of his fashionempire, which included exhilarating couture collections, exquisite accessories andsought-after perfumes, was captured by Vogue's writers and leading photographerslike Richard Avedon, David Bailey and Norman Parkinson.

Gianni Versace created a fashion house that, as Vogue declared, defined late twentieth-century glamour, invented the supermodel and sanctioned in the public consciousness a supremely self-assured feminine sexuality. His debut line in 1978 was instantly successful; in the Eighties, his extravagant designs and his vision of powerful women defined the era, and culminated in the Nineties with the supermodel phenomenon — his designs worn by those glamazons who featured on every Vogue cover. Vogue on Gianni Versace explores how his childhood spent in his mother's dressmaker's shops, his Italian hometown of Reggio Calabria, and his family, particularly his younger sister, Donatella, influenced not only the designer he became — the insistent sensuality, vivid colours, classical motifs, clashing prints and daring cuts — but also the way he constructed his business: family first. The book reveals how the more brazen elements of his design — the jewelled embroidery, the bondage straps, the safety-pin gowns — were predicated on supremely skilled tailoring, deft use of materials and innovative techniques. Alongside are Vogue's eye-witness accounts of the Versace lifestyle — the palazzos and parties, the art, the celebrity friends. Vogue on Gianni Versace is a celebration of a designer and a house that, in only 19 years, came to dominate the catwalk and the red carpet.

Nobu Matsuhisa still stands above all the other great world-class chefs in being the only one who is truly celebrated internationally. His ever-expanding empire of fabulously fashionable restaurants in the USA, UK, Italy and Japan now numbers thirteen and they still remain very much THE places to eat and to be seen in each of those cities. In Nobu Now, he gives readers an exhilarating taste of how his repertoire has developed, constantly expanded by his travels and experience, as well as the rich cross-fertilization with cuisines of the nations in which his empire now operates. For the first time, Nobu ventures beyond his favourite seafood into meat and poultry dishes, applying his usual principles and using his signature sauces, as in his Kobe Beef with Anticucho sauce and Foie Gras with Miso. For the vegetarian, there are treats like Tomato and Vegetable Ceviche, Watercress and White Asparagus Salad with Watercress Dressing and Avocado Egg Pudding while the desserts section really underscores the breadth and diversity of his repertoire. The art of using very simple techniques to bring out the latent flavours in the very best of ingredients is still at the heart of Nobu's cooking. In Nobu Now he amply demonstrates the essence of Japanese cuisine and quite how far this tenet can be applied. The result is the food that his legions of admirers all over the world absolutely adore — light, modern, clean and fresh.

Tricia Guild is known for her bold and original fabric and wallpaper collections and her extraordinary ability to use colour and pattern in decoration. She is inspired by fabrics, techniques, motifs and designs from all over the world and from every period of history — brocades and damasks from the Far East; the rich history of botanical illustration and flower painting; checks, plaids and stripes from northern Europe; vibrant ethnic prints from India and Central America; painterly designs from Chinese and European porcelain; the bold abstracts and geometric patterns of contemporary painters. Today, there has probably never been more popular interest in pattern. After what seems like decades of white walls, pattern on wallpaper and fabric are making a timely comeback in our interiors. As one of the world's leading designers, Tricia Guild is in the vanguard of this exciting pattern revival. Indeed, pattern has always been vital to her way of working, second only to her bold and innovative approach to colour. Her masterful mixing of large and small-scale patterns in a variety of contrasting colours, finishes and textures, is renowned throughout the world, and can be seen in detail in the specially designed room sets that illustrate this book. Taking traditional motifs or designs and giving them a modern twist, finding surprising contemporary uses for forgotten techniques such as flock printing and applique, and reinterpreting the ikats, crewelwork, quilting and other techniques seen on travels everywhere from New York to India are vital to her way of working. This book celebrates pattern in all of its wonderful diversity.

Wallpaper has never been more desirable. Throughout their 300-year history, patterned paper wallcoverings have alternated wildly between being absolutely 'of the moment' or totally out of fashion. Recently, after more than a decade of blank white walls and minimalism, wallpaper has made a grand comeback — and its popularity shows no signs of abating. In this stunning book — the ultimate guide to wallpaper — Charlotte Abrahams gets to the heart of the exciting contemporary wallpaper scene. Dividing the book into the three main areas of design — pasted pictures, fabulous florals and architectural illusions — she starts each section with what is happening now, then traces the history back through the key moments, developments, designers and manufacturers to the origins of the style. New young designers and established manufacturers, funky new layered images and classic designs, the latest visual technology and hand-painted historical scenes — all are discussed and illustrated. Each section also explains how to use this type of wallpaper in a variety of ways and rooms to obtain different effects. Expert advice on working out colour schemes, mixing florals with geometrics, using large and small prints, zoning and other techniques is included. Each section ends with full-page photographs of the 48 best wallpapers in this area (a mix of contemporary and classic). Over 200 wallpapers are included and every one is itemised in an illustrated source list giving details of design and manufacturer, with contact details, websites and where to purchase. All the wallpapers featured are available worldwide. Illustrated throughout with stunning wallpaper designs and beautiful rooms, this book really will be the ultimate guide to wallpaper.
