The area of recycling and upcycling is a rich and growing source of innovative design in the fashion and accessories industries. In a fast-fashion world of throw-away clothing, it is the ultimate expression of the slow-fashion movement, with each piece individually conceived and crafted from scratch, using different materials each time. ReFashioned features 46 international designers who work with recycled materials and discarded garments, reinvigorating them with new life and value. The result is beautiful and desirable clothing and accessories that also make an important statement to the fashion world about its wasteful and exploitative practices. |

Drawing has always been a fundamental skill and good drawing skills allowed artists to grasp the reality around them. At the turn of the millennium, however, the general impression was that with the wide availability of computers, scanners, digital cameras and image software, drawing would dwindle into a marginal activity. In fact, the opposite happened: the enthusiasm for digital imagery died down and the ability to draw has become a treasured skill. In the art world, attitudes to drawing have also changed. Drawing became a way of making a statement as an artist, of showing masterly skill something that up to then had been most commonly associated with painting. After centuries in the shadow of its more illustrious fine art relatives, drawing started to be appreciated for its own sake, as an art discipline, an end in itself, an art form. Walk the Line: The Art of Drawing includes interviews with the international selection of artists, as well as examples of their work. It will appeal to anyone interested in contemporary art and illustration. |

Womenswear progresses in leaps and bounds, fuelled by the readiness of women to wear what may at the time be perceived as the radical or outrageous. Not so with menswear evolves, slowly. But from what? Behind nearly every item in the modern male wardrobe is a first of its kind the definitive item, often designed by a single company or brand for specialist use, on which all subsequent versions have been based (and originals of which are now collector items in the booming vintage market). The T-shirt, for example, may now be an innocuous, everyday item, but was created by American company Hanes for US Navy personnel at the turn of the 20th century and was subsequently adopted by sportsmen and bikers. Other items have been designed for sport, farm work, protection and made their way into everyday usage. Icons of Men's Style examines, garment by garment, the most important and famous of these products their provenance and history, the stories of their design, the brand/company that started it all and how the item shaped the way men dress today. |

Ideally (though not exclusively) suited for designers, graphic designers, illustrators, art directors and anyone working within the creative industries, or studying these disciplines, or simply interested in exploring his or her creativity. Artists have always relied on their sketchbooks. But art has changed: new visual styles tend to be not exclusively the product of painting and drawing but will often come out of illustration, graphics, film and animation, fashion, advertising, art direction and a number of creative activities. This new line addresses the needs of contemporary practitioners, trying to update that format. Helpful and user-friendly, these sketchbooks tread that fine line between giving users practical tools and information while not interfering with their creative freedom. As part of this updating process, this sketchbook has been made entirely out of eco-friendly materials. |

100 Ideas that Changed Street Style is a look-by-look dissection of the key ideas that changed the way we dress — from the middle of the 20th century to the present day — explaining the most iconic items of clothing and how they were worn, what the look was born of, its cultural background, how it was received and how it still resonates in fashion today. The modern wardrobe owes its development not just to fashion designers in Paris or Milan but also to gangs and movements brought together by a shared appreciation of music, sport or a particular underground culture, and a certain style that defines membership. These styles have rocked establishments, created stereotypes, expressed social division as much as they have united people, entered the language, spread around the world and, above all, transformed dress for a wider public. |

In 1956 Time magazine referred to Pollock as 'Jack the Dripper'. His iconic paintings stretch out with the generosity and scale of the landscape of America's West where the artist grew up. Pollock said that he painted 'out of his consciousness': the cathartic dribbled paint reflected his troubled mind. This book traces Pollock's career and discusses how his loose, individual style was used as a political weapon in the Cold War, representing America as the free, democratic nation. Illustrations simplify the theory and reveal the hidden meaning behind the mesh of painted lines. Series writer Catherine Ingram brings her extensive knowledge to the book, while specially commissioned illustrations by New York-based illustrator Peter Arkle vividly portray the text. |
