The course is designed to maximise the performance of school-age learners. It features eight units covering the core Cambridge English: First (FCE) for Schools topics, vocabulary, grammar and the skills needed for all four exam papers. Two teen-inspired topics in each unit ensure the entire exam syllabus is covered, and can also act as a basis for CLIL-based extension activities and projects. Grammar sections and a Grammar Reference help students build up the accurate language structure necessary for the Use of English parts of the new Reading and Use of English paper, while B2-level vocabulary is targeted, drawing on insights from English Profile, and brought together in a Wordlist based on key vocabulary from the units. 'Exam tips', and grammar and vocabulary exercises teach students to avoid common mistakes identified in Cambridge's unique collection of real exam papers, the Cambridge Learner Corpus. |

This volume examines the nature of second language listening proficiency and how it can be assessed. The book highlights the need for test developers to provide a clear explication of the ability constructs which underpin the tests they offer in the public domain. This is increasingly necessary if claims about the validity of test score interpretation and use are to be supported both logically and with empirical evidence. It operationalises a comprehensive test validation framework which adopts a socio-cognitive perspective. The framework embraces six core components, examining and then analysing Cambridge ESOL listening tasks from the following perspectives: Test Taker; Cognitive Validity; Context Validity; Scoring Validity; Criterion-related Validity; and Consequential Validity. |

Chapters cover language skills and the language areas of grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary, as well as project work and assessment and evaluation. |

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is now well established as an important and distinctive part of English Language Teaching. Since the late 1980's ESP has changed in two very significant respects. Firstly, English for Business Purposes has become an increasingly important, even dominant, area of ESP. Secondly, the work of discourse and genre analysis on the one hand and the results of computer-based analysis on the other provide a fuller understanding of how specific texts, both written and spoken, work. It provides an update of these major developments in ESP and a summary of where the discipline is now. It is practical and accessible while covering a wide range of both theoretical and methodological topics. It also charts how ESP has been influenced by new ideas in the areas of management training, human resource development, sociology and intercultural training. |
