The traditional textiles of Central Asia are unknown treasures. Straddling the legendary Silk Road, this vast region stretches from Russia in the west to China in the east. Whether nomadic or sedentary, its peoples created textiles for every aspect of their way of life, from ceremonial objects marking rites of passage, to everyday garments, to practical items for the home. There were suzanis for the marriage bed; prayer mats; patchwork quilts; bridal ensembles; bags for tea, scissors, and mirrors; lovingly embroidered hats and bibs; and robes of every color and pattern. Author Susan Meller has spent years assembling the 590 textiles illustrated in this book. She documents their history, use, and meaning through archival photographs and fascinating travelers’ narratives spanning many centuries. Her book will be a revelation to designers, collectors, students of Central Asia, and travelers to the region. Silk and Cotton is destined to become a classic. |

In 2006, Stefan Sagmeister published Things I have learned in my life so far, a book born from a running list he keeps in his diary. With the support of his clients, Sagmeister began transforming these personal maxims into typographic artworks, which appeared on billboards, in magazines, and in public spaces all over the world. The result is an intriguing blend of personal revelation, visual audacity, and examination of the pursuit of happiness. This revised and updated edition includes all of the aphorisms from the first book along with an additional 48 pages of new ones, and incorporates recent material from Sagmeister’s exhibitions at the Deitch Projects gallery in Soho and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, as well as his current project, The Happy Film. The book retains its unique packaging, now with 18 unbound signatures gathered into a laser-cut slipcase. |

Brian McCarthy is an alumnus of the legendary Parish-Hadley firm where he started as Albert Hadley's assistant in 1983. In 1989, McCarthy became a partner of Parish Hadley where his credits include residences in New York City, Southampton, Toronto, Palm Beach, California, Bermuda and the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C. In 1991 he was one of twenty alumni recognised by Pratt Institute at a retrospective exhibition honouring students who had become leaders in the field of design. He started his own firm in 1991 and has designed some of the most glamorous interiors in the world including portions of the Frick museum and the home of the ambassador, Winfield House in Regents Park, which sits on the second largest property in London, exceeded only by Buckingham Palace. In his first book, Brian McCarthy will reveal the astonishing residences that he has designed across America and speak to the reader about how they can be inspired in their own home. Hundreds of colour photographs will chronicle McCarthy's unique approach towards design and renovation. McCarthy concentrates on the finishes and effects of surfaces in his rooms and as a consequence his rooms have an incredibly layered and textured look. In 2014, The Simpsons will have been on the air for 25 years. It is the longest running American sitcom, the longest running animated series and the longest running primetime, scripted television series. In any list of the world's leading families, the Simpsons would stand out. The Simpson family is often described as being dysfunctional, but it would be more accurate to say that in their quarter century of existence they have proven to be multifunctional, capable of Shakespearean wit, possessors of numerous and impressive talents and skills, paragons of emotional intelligence and vastly knowledgeable about virtually everything. The Simpsons Family History tells the story of this typical, but also completely remarkable, family — rites of passage, milestones, achievements, travels (in space and time), genealogy and more. This large-format, richly illustrated book is the ultimate family album. It is also the first Simpsons book to pay tribute to the extraordinary visual artistry that has made The Simpsons the most consistently entertaining, enlightening and inventive show in the history of television. |

The Metropolitan Museum's annual Costume Institute exhibition is the most prestigious event of its kind — a remarkable, must-see spectacle. With subjects that both reflect the zeitgeist and contribute to its creation, each exhibition — from 2005's Chanel, to 2011's Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty — creates a provocative and engaging narrative drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors. The show's opening-night gala, produced in collaboration with Vogue magazine, is regularly referred to as the Party of the Year and draws a glamorous A-list crowd. Untitled Met/Vogue begins its exploration of the event in 1971 and spans four decades, bringing us to the present. The book will offer a level of elevated, insider access only Vogue is capable of providing. Through photographs from the exhibitions themselves, as well as the fashion shoots they inspired in the pages of the magazine, catalogues, invitations and party photos from the opening-night galas, every chapter will offer a visually arresting, in-depth survey of that year's theme. Drawing from extensive Vogue archives, the fashion shoots featured will be anchored by photographs from icons such as Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino and Craig McDean, while also showcasing the editorial vision of legendary Vogue editors like Grace Coddington and Tonne Goodman and the immense knowledge and wit of writers such as Hamish Bowles and Jonathan Van Meter. |

Following on the heels of the successful alphabetic phenomenon, Countablock features thick pages cut into the shape of each number, creating a sort of peek-through guessing game around the number form itself. One egg becomes... one chick! From snowmen to puddles and acorns to oaks, quantities are illustrated twice: both before and after their transformations. As children interact with the pages, they will familiarise themselves not only with the numbers 1-100 and associated quantities, but with each numeral's physicality — angles, holes and curves, both front and back. Illustrated by hip British design team Peskimo, this fresh take on the 1-2-3s encourages readers to manipulate numbers in a whole new way. |
