«Because I'm often headstrong, I've sometimes interpreted classic recipes completely in my own way, and I hope you won't mind. Because I'm often impatient, I've sometimes drawn the recipes because it's faster and because at times, probably unnecessarily, I worry that you don't think in the same realm as I do, I've also added memories and photos so you get a sense of what I mean. Just like a formally decorated table, or a beautifully arranged plate, I believe that a cookbook should exude a certain spirit that I think you should be in when you get in the mood to get going in the kitchen.» from the Introduction Home Made blew away readers with its stunning package, delicious recipes, beautiful photos, step by step instruction and Yvette van Boven's own handdrawn artwork throughout the book. Yvette's passion for great food, beauty and good humor could be felt on every page in the book. Now, in Home Made Winter, her heartfelt work is presented again, this time with recipes intended for the winter season. Inspired by her childhood in Ireland and her frequent sojourns in France, Yvette van Boven has created a collection of recipes that will warm your heart. Chapters include Breakfast, Brunch & Lunch; Pies and sweet things for Tea Time; Beverages; To Start; and Dessert. She focuses on simple recipes for classic dishes that everybody thought were complicated to make, like croquettes, pulled pork and apple cider. Step by step, she explains how to make butter, beef sausage, and baileys. She also features winter holiday recipes. This book is sure to become the next musthave among home cooks.» |

Drawing on George Harrison's personal archive of photographs, letters, diaries, and memorabilia, Olivia Harrison reveals the arc of his life, from his guitar-obsessed boyhood in Liverpool, to the astonishment of the Beatles years, to his days as an independent musician and bohemian squire. Here too is the record of Harrison's lifelong commitment to Indian music, and his adventures as a movie producer, Travelling Wilbury, and Formula One racing fan. This book is filled with stories and reminiscences from Harrison's friends, including Eric Clapton, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idol, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and many, many others. Among its previously unpublished riches are photographs by Harrison himself beginning in the mid-1960s. It is a rich tribute to a man who died far too young, but who touched the lives of millions. |

«Crab Monsters, Teenage Cavemen, and Candy Stripe Nurses is a revealing, outrageously rollicking, gorgeously designed book about the career and films of Roger Corman: one of the most prolific, successful, and influential independent producers, directors, and writers in the history of Hollywood, and self-proclaimed king of the «B» movie. As told by Corman himself and the famous figures who got their starts in show business with him, including Peter Bogdanovich, James Cameron, David Carradine, Francis Ford Coppola, Robert De Niro, Jonathan Demme, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Ron Howard, Jack Nicholson and Martin Scorsese, this comprehensive oral history takes readers behind the scenes of more than six decades of American film history, as now legendary directors and actors candidly unspool anecdotes as though reminiscing together at a Hollywood cocktail party — continually one upping each other and lovingly recalling the years before their big breaks. Crab Monsters is supplemented with dozens of full page, full color reproductions of classic Corman movie posters; never before published, behind the scenes photographs and ephemera (many taken from Corman's personal archive); and critical essays on Corman's most daring and influential films — including Little Shop of Horrors, Death Race 2000, Piranha, A Bucket of Blood, and more — that make the case for Corman as an artist like no other.» |

In New Farmhouse Style talented designer Terry John Woods and photographer Kindra Clineff introduced us to their beautiful world of rustic farmhouse style by displaying Woods' own centuries old farmhouse in Vermont. Now in Farmhouse Modern, Woods takes his design sensibility even further by profiling homes in the northeast that are putting a new spin on vintage farmhouse design. Farmhouse Modern will feature profiles of homes decorated and styled by Woods along with text on reinventing your home through creative placement of objects and gathering collections both antique and modern. Woods will also provide advice on shopping at flea markets, yard sales and estate sales which is where he finds most of the furniture in his homes. Over 200 gorgeous photographs by Kindra Clineff will reveal the farmhouses in the same lush and warm style fans of New Farmhouse Style and Summer House have come to love. |

The punk movement sprang up on the east coast in the late 1960s. It crossed the Atlantic and virtually exploded in London and Paris. This dynamic counter movement churned out heaps of photocopied, hand stapled fanzines that expressed ideas, music and works of art. Some became professional magazines. By creating its own press, the punk movement secured its place and its voice in the history of 20th century art and culture. The book Punk Press compiles the stunning graphics created by these publications, spanning from the East Village, to East London, to the Left Bank, featuring multiple collages, cutouts and handcrafted typography, standing as a visual tour through one of music's most influential movements. |

Seventy years after his father left to be a mapmaker for the war in Europe, Emerson Johansson received a package that had been lost in the mail for decades. The parcel contained a most extraordinary gift: an exquisite book Johansson's father lovingly made by hand, detailing an unforgettable adventure they shared together just months before his departure. With maps, drawings, watercolors and photographs, this artifact and family heirloom recounts a mountainous winter landscape alive with the dangers and magic of an alpine blizzard. Destined to become a Christmas classic, The Lost Christmas Gift is a faithful reproduction of the magnificent hand-crafted present Johnasson's father sent him, and a poignant reminder that the best gifts transcend time and distance, renewing our gratitude for the resilience of memory, the bonds of family, and the kindness of strangers. |

Vanity Fair 100 Years showcases a century of personality and power, art and commerce, crisis and culture--both highbrow and low. In the sumptuous 384-page coffee table book, the editors of Vanity Fair have created the definitive history of the most talked-about magazine of our day. The most innovative voices in popular culture are all compiled within these pages (from Robert Benchley, Jacques Cocteau and Dorothy Parker, to William Styron, Christopher Hitchens and Dominick Dunne) along with the greatest magazine illustrators, artists and photographers of all time--most notably Edward Steichen and Annie Leibovitz, who, through Vanity Fair, virtually invented the modern celebrity portrait. Writers Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger contribute an essay on the incomparable Frank Crowninshield and the birth of the Jazz Age Vanity Fair, Jim Windolf chronicles the magazine's rebirth in 1983, and Frank DiGiacomo gives the history of the glamorous Vanity Fair Oscar Party. |

«Across the Ravaged Land is the third and final volume in Nick Brandt's trilogy of books documenting the disappearing natural world and animals of East Africa. The book's title, combined with the titles of Brandt's first two books, captures the change he has witnessed: «On this Earth, a shadow falls across the ravaged land.» The book offers a darker vision of the world that Brandt has been photographing for the last decade, a world still filled with a stunning beauty, but now tragically tainted and fast disappearing at the hands of man. In addition to a range of new, starkly powerful portraits of animals; elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, that appear to be posing especially for the photographer as if in a studio, Brandt introduces some new themes. For the first time, humans make an appearance in his photographs. On the jacket, a crouched ranger supports the weight of two giant tusks of an elephant killed by poachers. One new series of photographs has hunters' trophies placed back in the epic landscapes where once these creatures roamed. Another features perfectly preserved animals calcified by the salts of a Rift Valley soda lake. In both instances, the subjects appear strangely alive and sentient in death. Brandt also contributes two essays summing up his photographic odyssey, which has taken more than a decade of intensive work to complete. One details his work from the perspective of conservation, giving a broad overview of the wave of destruction of wildlife and habitat across Africa and describing the work his Big Life Foundation is doing to preserve the Amboseli ecosystem of Kenya and Tanzania. The other discusses technical aspects of his project.» |

The story of rock lives in Lynn Goldsmith’s photographs. After coming of age in the Midwest in the tumultuous 1960s, she crashed the music scene in New York and emerged as one of its leading image-makers. She chronicled Bruce Springsteen’s passage to glory, the Rolling Stone’s legendary stadium tours, Michael Jackson’s staggering ascent, U2’s arrival in New York and the brooding force of Bob Marley. Culture heroes like Bob Dylan and Patti Smith became frequent subjects for her lens. The range of her work is staggering. In Rock and Roll Stories, she shares the best of this work. |

Everywhere we turn, experts are telling us to eat more whole grains, for heart health (whole grains are of course rich in the fibre that reduces cholesterol), weight loss (they're filling and don't lead to blood sugar spikes), even cancer prevention (whole grains were recently found to be chockfull of antioxidants). Whole Grains for a New Generation capitalises on this growing interest in whole grains, but interestingly, health is not the focus here. Although the health benefits are undeniable, the focus of this book is easy recipes promising great flavour, the health benefits are simply an added bonus. Liana Krisoff shows how easy it is not only to incorporate whole grains into your diet, but really how delicious these grains can be. Here are 175 recipes for Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, Dinner and Dessert, meant for everyday cooking and requiring no special ingredients or equipment. Recipes include Cornmeal Pancakes with Plum Compote; Black Quinoa with Chicken Confit, Mushrooms, and Pickled Red Onion; Calamari and Farro Salad with Mango, Lime, and Basil; Sweet-Spiced Roast Chicken with Barley and Apricots; Whole Roasted Rainbow Trout with Zucchini Couscous; and more. These are delicious recipes that are free of extraneous steps and include make-ahead and time-saving tips as well as other techniques and ideas for easily incorporating whole grains into everyday meals. Canning For A New Generation introduced a younger audience to an age-old method of preserving and cooking that only makes sense given the newfound DIY interest among home cooks. Whole Grains for a New Generation continues in this vein, offering another beautiful package that introduces age-old grains and new fresh flavours to mainstream, young and hip home cooks seeking out healthful and delicious ways of eating. |
