Harper's Bazaar is a distinguished fashion magazine, revered for its contributions to fashion, photography, and graphic design in the twentieth century. Under the direction of Glenda Bailey, editor-in-chief, and Stephen Gan, creative director, in this century, the magazine has maintained its position as a cultural icon. Bailey is known for her elaborate visual productions: fashion features that use pop culture trends and the adventures of notorious public figures as the backdrop for elaborate narratives. The resulting images, shot by well-known photographers and featuring supermodels and super-celebrities, are both entertaining and beautiful. Their ultimate purpose is to bring the best and most inventive fashion to the widest possible audience. Harper's Bazaar: 2001-2010 is a collection of more than 300 fashion photographs that chronicle the best high fashion of the twenty-first century. It features: Naomi Campbell races a cheetah in Africa in a photograph by Jean-Paul Goude; Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, Donatella Versace, and John Galliano choreograph fantasies about their own fashions; Agyness Deyn pays tribute to Michael Jackson, shot by Terry Richardson; Lagerfeld does Courtney Love doing penance for wearing fake Chanel; Tim Burton, David Lynch, and The Simpsons do high fashion; and, Sarah Jessica Parker models Diana Vreeland for Peter Lindburgh. A celebration of fashion, a romp through a riotous and eventful decade, and a banquet of contemporary imagery, Harper's Bazaar: 2001-2011 is also a glamorous object in itself.

Here is the first real insider's perspective to the contemporary scene and its antecedents, as the authors, Zephyr and J.SON, have been both artists and historians of the graffiti movement-Zephyr has been painting graffiti for more than 30 years, with The New York Times dubbing him 'The elder statesman of graffiti', and J.SON started writing graffiti in 1973 before retiring in 1984. Жанр: Abrams
Страниц: 128 страниц
Загрузил: liego55, 21 июля 2014
Through the 1950s and the early 1960s, working with that era's supermodels, fashion photographer Lillian Bassman created the quintessential modern feminine image of women in their lingerie. As Ginia Bellafante put it in the New York Times recently, In place of heavyset women constraining themselves in what was essentially equipment, Ms. Bassman deployed immeasurably lithe models, conveying a world in which women seemed to linger in the pleasures of their own sensuality. Fifty years later, these images have lost none of their allure, and the enormous cultural impact of the TV show Mad Men has given them new currency.
The Cat in Art
Автор: Zuffi Stefano
Издательство: Abrams, 2007
Жанр: Abrams
Страниц: 360 страниц
Загрузил: admin, 7 октября 2011
Almost from the beginning of art, humans have portrayed cats. The animal originally domesticated for the humble purpose of catching mice was already a goddess in ancient Egypt and a beloved household pet in ancient Rome. Throughout history, cats have been a beautiful vessel for symbolic meanings, ranging from dark unruly sensuality to perfect domestic tranquillity. In this book, cats inhabit 170 art masterpieces. Sometimes they are the stars of the work and sometimes they are working their magic from the corners of rooms (in which case both the whole work and a detail showing the cat are both illustrated). Here are paintings by Van Eyck, Raphael, Leonardo, Bruegel, Rembrandt, Chardin, Gainsborough, Manet, Renoir, Bonnard, Gauguin, Matisse, Balthus, Picasso, Warhol and many other famous artists. Stefano Zuffi's charming text tells us what it all means. The cats, meanwhile, are beautiful, seductive and mysterious.

Over the past fifteen years, Steampunk — a mash-up of Victorian and sci-fi aesthetics with a splash of punk rock attitude — has gone from being a literary movement to a part of pop culture and a way of life. This subculture celebrates the inventor as an artist and hero, re-envisioning and crafting retro technologies including antiquated airships and steam-powered robots. The Steampunk aesthetic now permeates movies, comics, fashion, art and more, and has given a distinct flavor to iconic events such as Maker Faire and the Burning Man festival. The Steampunk Bible is the first book of its kind, a fully illustrated compendium tracing the roots and history of this subculture, from the work of its godfathers Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, to the key figures who coined the word that would spawn a literary genre, to the vast community of craftsmen and artists who translated that spark into a lifestyle with clothing and accessories such as goggles, corsets, pocket watches, and with an attitude to match. This ultimate resource, filled with scores of illustrations and photographs, will appeal to aficionados and novices alike as author Jeff VanderMeer takes the reader on a wild ride through the clockwork corridors of Steampunk past, present and future.
