In 1950, photographer Gisele Freund embarked on a two-week trip to Mexico, but she wouldn't leave until two years later. There she met the legendary couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Welcomed into their home, she immersed herself in their private lives and the cultural and artistic diversity of the country, taking hundreds of photographs. These powerful photographs, among the last taken before Kahlo's death, bear poignant witness to Frida's beauty and talent. Showcasing more than 100 of these rare images, many of which have never been published before, the book also includes previously unpublished commentary by Gisele Freund about Frida Kahlo, texts by Kahlo's biographer Gerard de Cortanze and art historian Lorraine Audric, as well as a link to a previously unreleased colour film, shot by Freund, showing Diego Rivera at work. |

A hundred miles north of San Francisco on California Coast Highway 1, the Sonoma County coast meets the Pacific Ocean in a magnificent display of nature. Waves crash upon the rocks or wash up on beautiful stretches of sandy beaches. This is the location of The Sea Ranch, an area covering several thousand acres of large, open meadows and forested natural settings interspersed with award-winning architecture. When the area, a sheep ranch well into the last century, was rediscovered for its beauty in the 1960s, it came to be envisioned as a home community that harmonized with the environment. Renowned landscape designer Lawrence Halprin's master plan for The Sea Ranch community accordingly incorporated a set of building guidelines that minimized the visual as well as physical impact upon the landscape. Subsequent buildings by architects such as Joseph Esherick, Charles Moore, William Turnbull, Obie Bowman, Donlyn Lyndon, and others have been recognized worldwide for environmentally sensitive planning and architecture. They sparked a generation of imitators that became part of what is known as The Sea Ranch style, epitomizing what many people imagine when they think of Northern Californian architecture. This beautiful monograph, lavishly illustrated with over 300 newly commissioned photographs and including maps, plans, detailed descriptions of the houses, and essays by Donald Canty and Lawrence Halprin, presents the definitive record of The Sea Ranch community. |

«This is the hilarious, clever and much-anticipated follow-up to the breakout hit, «The Strange Case of Origami Yoda». Tom is an exciting new voice in middle grade fiction. His spot-on portrayals of secondary school and the dynamics that exist between kids are realistic and humorous. He's definitely a rising author to watch. This is the fantastic book for boys and reluctant readers especially. «Publishers Weekly» said Tom's writing included 'spot-on boy banter', «100 Scope Notes» called Yoda 'reluctant reader platinum', and «Fuse Number 8» said, 'It's been a while since I found a book that can truly be called genderless (in that it has wide appeal across the board)'. «Lucasfilm» is enthusiastically back on board with us for the second book. It includes instructions for making your own original origami Darth Vader. Darth Vader is the most popular «Star Wars» character, their 'Mickey Mouse' according to Lucas.» |

Mad Men Carousel, authored by Abrams' bestselling author Matt Zoller Seitz, will gather all of Seitz's widely read (and discussed) Mad Men essays in a single volume. Rather than simply recalling the plot through lengthy summary, Seitz's essays dig deep into the show's themes, performances and filmmaking, with the tone and spirit of accessible, but serious, film or literary criticism. This novel-sized volume will be designed to have a 1970s feel and will be broken into seven sections, one for each season. Max Dalton, who created original illustrations for both of Seitz's Wes Anderson books, will illustrate each section with tasteful line drawings; novelist Megan Abbott will contribute an original introduction. This book will be the go-to guide for current fans who want to relive the Mad Men experience from a critical and thoughtful lens, or for new fans who want to binge their way through one of the most popular TV shows in recent memory, with critical essays to accompany their viewing experience. |

Trees are the most important structural element of any garden. Tree Gardens is the first book focusing on their importance in garden design and landscape architecture. Tree Gardens features both important historical and contemporary landscape design projects ranging from ten to thousands of trees; including works by such well-known designers as Frederick Law Olmsted, Andre Le Notre, C.Th. Sorensen, Daniel Kiley, Peter Walker and Michael Van Valkenburgh, among others. Each case study explains how the scale, context, species and spaces of trees on a particular site establish the expressive structure of the tree garden. Author Gina Crandell makes a fascinating case for the active management of designed forests, including preservation strategies, such as replacement of trees over time. We expect this book to fill a niche in the discourse on contemporary landscape design and to be an important resource for students, landscape architects and horticulturalists alike. |

«Illustrations and photographs, each paired with an eloquent quotation, take the reader on a tour of the Land of the Rising Sun in «Japan». The images include some of the earliest photographs taken in Japan, in addition to the work of contemporary photographers, plus traditional and modern prints and designs. The accompanying texts are taken from classic works like «The Tale of Genji», as well as more modern literature, each one revealing a piece of wisdom from the East for each season of the year. Japan has held a certain fascination for many Westerners since its reopening by Commodore Matthew Perry in 1854. Thanks to two centuries of isolation, its classical traditions and customs survived industralization and globalization, resulting in a unique blending of old and new. This book brings together the historical and the current in a broad portrait of Japanese heritage through the centuries.» |

«Beth Levine Shoes» is a showcase of gorgeous, full-color photographs of Beth Levine's groundbreaking shoe design and the story of this pioneering woman who went from Long Island farm girl to shoemaker for stars such as Nancy Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and Barbra Streisand. Although she was a truly visionary designer, Levine's shoes were sold under her husband's name because female shoe designers were unheard of in her time. This book will give her the credit she deserves for her fashion-forward work, including introducing mules, stilettos, and fashion boots to the American market. Her work is featured in museums around the world. Her designs are still setting trends today and in photographs look as fresh now as when they were first produced. The book features more than 60 full-page photographs of Levine's shoes — sexy, sensual, and playful — accompanied by quotes, a biography of Levine and archival material.» |

Bob Gruen first photographed John Lennon in 1971 and became his personal photographer and close friend shortly thereafter. Over the course of the next nine years, right up until Lennon was shot and killed, Gruen photographed him extensively. The book is filled with photos and reflections by Gruen on the circumstances surrounding the photo such as John's relationship with Yoko, the role of the band Elephant's Memory, how he dealt with fame, his first days with his son Sean, how he spiralled downward on alcohol fuelled binges. It is a true behind-the-scenes look at Lennon as a performer, a legend, and a person. |
